My goal of writing a book that people would still be talking about ten years later lurches into year seven with this review of Move Under Ground: I want to be very clear on a point: I really loved this book. But it did crawl into my mind and poke experimentally at my cerebellum.
Amazon.com is giving Author Central authors limited access to their Bookscan sales numbers. This is funny because Bookscan numbers are useful primarily relativistically—how are books of this type/format/release date selling. Pure numbers don't say much except how one's book is doing in the chains and amazon. The mix of indie bookstores reporting to Bookscan is also interesting: Moe's doesn't report but Pegasus does, despite Moe's doing a much brisker trade in new books than Pegasus. And Modern Times is on Bookscan? That's almost funny. (Anyway, clever people now know where to do readings if they can get them.)
