My story, "The Big Blue Peacock" appears in Dark Faith: Invocations, and the reviews are in! "TBBP" is easily my most "mainstream" horror story when it comes to plot and sensibility. Indeed, I was worried the editors who solicited it wouldn't take it because it was too basic a story for me. (One doesn't solicit me for a story if one wants the basic Freytag's triangle about a hero who wants something and faces obstacles), but they took it and published it and now it is being read and reviewed. And...
The Big Blue Peacock (Nick Mamatas) – I’m not sure I know exactly what happened in this story.
and
This story left me with more questions than it answered. I kept waiting to find out more about the Yezidi, as did Tian as she searched out answers that were just beyond her grasp. Then, with the violent, abrupt end to the story I was left feeling confused, like I was still searching but there was no where left to look.
and
my least favorite by a large margin... I found little to relate to and while some of the story was engaging, I have little knowledge of Yezidi and the discovery of the sacrificial site and outcome was vague to me.
Even the ones who liked it:
My initial reaction was... "what in the world was that story about, and did it even make sense at all?"
and
...and the conclusion (not foregone, not predictable, but oh-so-appropriate) left me with questions to ask myself.
